VP, Application Reliability & Operations Engineering

Humana is seeking a VP, Application Reliability & Operations Engineering to lead our mission of delivering secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure across the organization. This full-time remote position, based nationwide, is an opportunity to build and mentor a world-class reliability engineering team while shaping the reliability strategy that powers Humana's products and services.

The Opportunity

As VP of Application Reliability & Operations Engineering at Humana, you'll own the reliability, performance, and operational excellence of our critical systems. You'll lead a talented team of engineers, establish best practices in site reliability engineering, and work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to build systems that our customers depend on. This leadership role combines strategic thinking with hands-on technical depth—you'll champion a reliability-first culture while solving complex infrastructure challenges at scale.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of site reliability and operations engineers, fostering technical growth and excellence
• Define and execute the reliability strategy, ensuring high availability and performance across production systems
• Drive incident management processes, postmortem analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Partner with engineering teams to embed reliability practices and observability into the development lifecycle
• Oversee infrastructure, cloud platforms, and operational tooling to support scalability and resilience
• Monitor system health, optimize costs, and recommend architectural improvements
• Communicate reliability metrics, strategic priorities, and progress to leadership and stakeholders

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years in operations, infrastructure, site reliability engineering, or DevOps roles
• 5+ years in a leadership or management capacity, building and mentoring technical teams
• Deep expertise in cloud platforms, containerization, and modern infrastructure-as-code practices
• Strong background in incident response, postmortem analysis, and reliability improvement methodologies
• Proficiency with monitoring, observability, and alerting systems
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across organizational boundaries
• Proven ability to drive organizational change and build trust-based teams
