Position Summary

Temporal Technologies is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead agent optimization initiatives within the AI Foundations group. You'll architect systems that enable developers to build intelligent agents with superior efficiency—focusing on minimizing token consumption and latency while preserving output quality. The challenge spans model selection strategies, multi-agent orchestration patterns, intelligent caching approaches, and context window management. This role requires proven expertise in both AI systems and low-level systems programming, combining theoretical depth with practical implementation skills.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement optimization frameworks that help developers reduce computational costs and improve agent responsiveness
• Develop comprehensive expertise in agentic application patterns and emerging AI system architectures
• Engineer reliable systems for agent development that maintain quality and developer trust across multiple programming languages
• Serve as a technical authority on AI design patterns, providing guidance and canonical code examples to field teams and developers
• Contribute substantive technical documentation that educates the developer community on Temporal concepts and capabilities
• Engage directly with developers to troubleshoot complex technical issues and gather requirements for product improvements
• Lead the development and delivery of optimization features, coordinating across teams to achieve reliability and usability goals
• Travel periodically to connect with teammates and participate in industry events

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience
• Demonstrated expertise in optimizing AI and machine learning systems using both algorithmic and systems-level techniques
• Hands-on experience building applications with generative AI, particularly agents and coding assistance tools
• Strong conviction that AI should enhance quality and user outcomes, not merely increase volume or throughput
• Advanced proficiency in concurrent and distributed programming with thorough understanding of synchronization primitives
• Proven track record designing and documenting APIs intended for public use and developer adoption
• Fluency across multiple programming languages with demonstrated interest in expanding your programming toolkit
• Thoughtful, principled perspectives on software design that are informed but not rigid—comfortable challenging assumptions and adopting new practices
• Excellent technical communication abilities in English, both written and verbal
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience building production software
