Forward Deployed Engineer

Beacon Biosignals, a leader in precision medicine powered by at-home EEG technology, is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our Datastore team in a full-time, remote position based in Boston, MA. You'll be the technical bridge between our platform and the clinical partners who depend on our data and analytics capabilities.

About the Role

Our Datastore team maintains the central data repository and API layer that powers Beacon's brain data platform. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll partner directly with external partners and research organizations to activate our EEG datasets and analytics infrastructure. Rather than building foundational platform components, you'll focus on translating partner needs into practical implementations—whether that means integrating their workflows with our APIs, building proof-of-concept analyses, or developing custom tooling on either Beacon's platform or the customer's environment. Your work will help academic medical centers, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutions unlock clinical insights from our database of nearly 100,000 patient EEG records.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Engage with external partners and internal stakeholders to gather requirements, understand analytical workflows, and identify technical constraints
• Lead technical architecture discussions with partner engineering teams and data specialists around API adoption, data access patterns, and downstream analytics
• Develop production-ready code, proof-of-concept solutions, and integration layers that connect Beacon's data model with partner systems
• Build analyses, dashboards, and reports that demonstrate value and validate Beacon's EEG data for clinical applications
• Collaborate with the Datastore engineering team to design tools and runbooks that improve operational visibility and speed up troubleshooting of data issues
• Incorporate partner feedback and insights to enhance API documentation, data model clarity, and integration workflows
• Balance speed with substance—ship working solutions quickly while maintaining data integrity and code quality standards

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience building or supporting data platform solutions (active coding is required)
• 3+ years in a customer-facing or partnership-focused engineering role that involved owning client relationships and resolving technical issues
• Advanced SQL skills, with demonstrated experience designing and maintaining analytical or transactional data models
• Fluency in a data-oriented programming language such as Python, Julia, or R
• Practical knowledge of modern analytics and BI platforms (such as Snowflake, Superset, or Looker)
• Solid understanding of API design patterns and data integration approaches—including REST, GraphQL, batch exports, ELT/ETL, and event-based systems
• Ability to work across the full stack, from database design and SQL optimization to application and integration code
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders
• Comfort making pragmatic decisions in ambiguous situations, prioritizing outcomes over perfect solutions
