Mathematical Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential aerospace technology organization seeking a skilled Mathematical Software Engineer to enhance their ground-based systems responsible for complex scheduling and planning operations. In this role, you will contribute to the development of intelligent automated systems that plan operations over upcoming hours and days across distributed infrastructure.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Developing new scheduling capabilities including planning algorithms and contact strategies
• Iterating on features based on stakeholder feedback and evolving business requirements
• Building and refining observability dashboards and alerts
• Supporting live operations of constellation scheduling software
• Improving the team's development environment and processes
• Investigating and mitigating issues that arise in production systems

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Strong mathematics or modeling systems skills
• Proven ability to write robust software applications
• Comfort working in a dynamic environment while delivering on evolving requirements
• Solid understanding of software practices such as version control, testing, debugging, and build systems
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar discipline

Preferred experience:

• Programming in Rust or other compiled languages
• Combinatorial optimization and/or mixed integer programming
• Orbital mechanics and maneuver planning
• Experience in the space industry
• Cloud and containerization technologies such as AWS, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices

This position operates on a hybrid work model requiring a minimum of three days per week in the Glasgow office. Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required; if needed, our client will arrange the necessary licenses.
