Billing Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential energy-tech client in their search for a Billing Manager to own the invoicing operation during a period of rapid growth. This is a full-time, permanent position based in Berlin.

Our client is scaling quickly, and their invoicing volume and complexity are growing in parallel. You'll be responsible for the entire billing cycle—ensuring accuracy, reducing backlogs, building scalable processes, and preparing the organization for tooling and ERP upgrades. This is a hands-on role where you'll jump into individual invoices when needed while systematically designing the processes that eliminate future manual work.

Responsibilities

• Own daily invoicing processes: quality control, completeness checks, and timely delivery to customers
• Reduce and eliminate current ticket backlogs through prioritization, root-cause analysis, and systematic execution
• Ensure complex billing logic (including contract types, volume-based pricing, regulatory fees, and taxes) is accurately reflected in every invoice
• Track and improve invoicing KPIs: on-time rate, error rate, ticket aging, and time-to-invoice
• Design and implement scalable invoicing processes, moving from manual workflows to standardized, automated solutions
• Document all processes to ensure reproducibility, smooth handoffs, and audit-readiness
• Communicate directly with customers on invoicing questions in both German and English (written)
• Partner closely with Sales and Customer Success to ensure upstream data quality from contracts, pricing, and delivery points
• Collaborate with technical and data teams to ensure clean consumption data flows into invoicing
• Serve as the invoicing interface to the accounting team, ensuring clean data handoff and supporting month-end close processes
• Maintain audit-ready documentation: process maps, invoice-level traceability, and control frameworks

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

• 3+ years in Billing, Order-to-Cash, Finance Operations, or similar operational finance roles
• Scale-up or fast-growth company experience; you've worked in environments with ambiguous processes and evolving systems
• B2B billing experience with complex pricing models—individual contracts, volume-based logic, or formula-driven pricing (not simple SaaS flat-rate)
• Proven high-output track record with examples of critical processes you've built or saved
• Systems thinker with exceptional attention to detail; able to identify patterns behind recurring errors
• Excel/Google Sheets power user who can build and document advanced models
• Strong stakeholder management skills across Sales, Customer Success, and technical teams
• Ownership mindset: you take initiative without waiting to be asked
• Business fluent in English and German (written); speaking proficiency is a strong plus

Nice-to-haves:

• Energy or utility sector experience
• Hands-on experience with billing tool rollouts or ERP implementations
• SQL or Python basics, or practical experience with AI tools for workflow automation
