Accounting Director UK – FTC

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential prize-draw organisation in London for a 12-month fixed-term Accounting Director role covering maternity leave. You will provide senior leadership for UK accounting operations, owning monthly close processes, statutory reporting, audit delivery, and financial controls in a high-growth, recently transformed finance function.

Your core responsibilities include:

• Own the UK monthly close under US GAAP and UK statutory reporting (IFRS/FRS 101), ensuring accurate, timely, and standards-compliant financial statements
• Serve as primary contact for statutory audits with external auditors, coordinating all audit deliverables and queries
• Manage the UK accounting team and coordinate outsourced accounts payable operations, overseeing day-to-day banking and treasury functions
• Oversee complex technical accounting areas including revenue recognition for prize draws, multi-year charity liabilities with present-value discounting, winner payout schedules, lease accounting, and intercompany transactions across the group
• Support VAT, corporation tax, and HMRC filings in coordination with external tax advisers
• Maintain and strengthen financial controls and standard operating procedure documentation as part of broader governance initiatives
• Partner with accounting leadership across multiple jurisdictions on group consolidation and reporting matters

What We're Looking For

Our client needs a hands-on accounting director who can step into a lean, fast-moving team and ensure seamless continuity during this cover period.

Essential qualifications and experience:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent)
• Significant post-qualification experience including senior or director-level accounting roles
• Strong technical accounting under IFRS; US GAAP experience strongly preferred
• Experience in multi-entity, multi-currency group environments with comfort across consolidation and intercompany accounting
• Proven team leadership combined with willingness to work hands-on in lean finance operations
• Strong systems and controls orientation; NetSuite experience preferred

Standout candidates will have:

• Experience in high-growth, private-equity-backed, venture-backed, or pre-IPO businesses
• Exposure to VAT-complex or regulated consumer businesses
