About This Position

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced Arts & Government Reporter to uncover and tell compelling stories about the relationship between the arts sector and government. You'll investigate policy decisions, funding mechanisms, and cultural initiatives that affect artists, institutions, and audiences across the country.

Responsibilities

• Conduct original reporting on arts policy, cultural funding, government arts initiatives, and related regulatory matters
• Research and develop story ideas examining how government decisions affect museums, performing arts organizations, public broadcasting, film, literature, and creative communities
• Identify, cultivate, and interview key sources including policy makers, arts administrators, artists, and thought leaders
• Write authoritative, well-researched articles for publication across The Washington Post's digital and print platforms
• Collaborate with editors, photographers, videographers, and colleagues on multimedia storytelling projects
• Verify facts rigorously and maintain The Washington Post's editorial standards and ethical guidelines

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience as a reporter at a major news organization, wire service, or equivalent professional journalism background
• Proven ability to identify, develop, and report original stories in a specialized beat or subject area
• Strong interviewing, research, and source development skills
• Excellent writing ability with command of AP style, journalistic conventions, and narrative techniques
• Background or demonstrated knowledge in arts, culture, policy, or related fields
• Ability to work under deadline pressure, manage multiple stories simultaneously, and respond to breaking news
• Familiarity with digital journalism platforms and multimedia storytelling tools
