On Call Archaeology Field Technician

Join WSP as an On Call Archaeology Field Technician and support cultural resource management for construction and development projects across California. Based at Arco Plaza in Los Angeles County, this part-time, project-based role offers hands-on field experience monitoring construction activities for archaeological and cultural significance.

What This Role Involves

As an On Call Archaeology Field Technician with WSP's Earth & Environment Cultural Resource Team, you'll work on a flexible, as-needed basis supporting construction monitoring projects throughout California. This position combines direct fieldwork with documentation responsibilities, ensuring that development projects proceed while protecting culturally significant sites and resources. You'll be part of a dynamic, expanding team that solves complex client challenges related to cultural resource compliance, preservation, and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Do

• Conduct on-site monitoring during construction and ground-disturbing activities to identify and document archaeological materials and cultural features
• Maintain detailed records, field notes, and photographic documentation of observations and findings
• Communicate project updates, observations, and findings to project leads and client teams
• Assist in surface surveys and systematic documentation of project areas and potential archaeological zones
• Handle, process, and catalog artifacts or materials according to established archaeological protocols
• Support compliance efforts to ensure projects meet cultural resource management and regulatory requirements

What We're Looking For

• Prior fieldwork experience in archaeology, cultural resources, or related environmental disciplines
• Strong attention to detail and proven ability to work methodically in varied outdoor field conditions
• Excellent communication and technical documentation skills
• Flexibility to work on-call, manage variable project schedules, and adapt to field conditions
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional project teams
• Experience or familiarity with archaeological survey methods and cultural resource management practices
