Prospect Schools is hiring a full-time Mandarin language educator to join our middle school faculty in Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn, where you'll teach grades 6–8 students in one of our high-performing charter schools.
About the Role
This position offers the opportunity to build Mandarin language proficiency and cultural competency among middle school learners in an academically rigorous, intentionally diverse school setting. Your instruction will align with our International Baccalaureate-inspired curriculum and contribute directly to our college-preparatory mission, helping students develop confidence as communicators and global citizens.
What You'll Do
- Develop engaging Mandarin lessons that build listening, speaking, reading, and writing competency across grades 6–8
- Integrate Chinese history, culture, and contemporary topics to deepen students' understanding of the language and its cultural context
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback and adjusting instruction as needed
- Partner with colleagues across departments to reinforce language learning and support school-wide academic goals
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, from those beginning their language studies to advanced students
- Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom where middle school students practice communication with confidence and respect
What We're Looking For
- Current certification or demonstrated professional expertise in Mandarin language teaching
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese (simplified and traditional characters) with native or near-native English proficiency
- Experience teaching Mandarin or world languages at the middle or secondary level
- Effective classroom management skills and ability to engage young learners in interactive language practice
- Dedication to culturally responsive teaching and building an equitable learning environment
- Strong collaboration skills and alignment with a school community centered on academic excellence and diversity
