About This Position

Safety Support Associates at PATH's interim housing facility in Long Beach are the frontline guardians of community wellbeing. You'll monitor site conditions, build trust with participants, and respond thoughtfully when tensions rise—using communication and proven de-escalation techniques rather than force. Your work bridges case management, security, and direct participant support, making you essential to a holistic housing program. This full-time role offers flexible scheduling options, including Monday–Friday shifts from 7:00am–3:30pm or 3:30pm–11:00pm.

What You'll Do

• Observe and maintain safety across the interim housing facility and grounds, identifying risks before they become crises.
• Engage participants proactively, fostering the relationships and accountability that keep everyone safe.
• Partner with on-site case managers and contracted security teams to coordinate a consistent safety approach.
• Conduct regular facility rounds, document observations, and communicate concerns to supervisors and the case management team.
• Respond to security and crisis situations using verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Complete required reports and contribute to team meetings that shape safety and support operations.

What We're Looking For

You combine sharp observation skills with genuine empathy. You think clearly under pressure, communicate with precision both verbally and in writing, and work collaboratively toward shared goals. You take initiative without prompting, solve problems creatively, and maintain high ethical standards even in complex situations. Strong boundaries and integrity define your work.

Preferred: At least one year working with vulnerable populations, in security roles, or in de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention.

Required: Current work authorization in the US, willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid certification, and successful completion of a tuberculosis test, background screening, and drug screening.
