About the Role

As Maintenance Supervisor at Magnolia Gardens in New York City, you'll oversee the day-to-day maintenance and operational upkeep of our shelter facility. Leading a dedicated maintenance team, you'll ensure all systems—heating, plumbing, electrical, and structural—operate reliably and meet our high standards for resident safety and comfort. Your leadership will directly impact the living environment for hundreds of people each night who depend on our services.

What You'll Do

  • Supervise and coordinate maintenance staff on assigned shifts, delegating tasks and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and building systems
  • Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and urgent repair requests to maintain facility safety
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, equipment repairs, and inventory
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify potential issues before they escalate
  • Work with building contractors and vendors to coordinate larger repair and renovation projects
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, health and safety regulations, and URI policies
  • Support resident safety and dignity by maintaining a clean, secure, and functional living environment

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent; trade certification (HVAC, plumbing, or electrical) preferred
  • 3+ years of maintenance or supervisory experience in multifamily residential, institutional, or facility management
  • Knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance practices, and relevant safety codes
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to train, mentor, and motivate maintenance team members
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Reliable transportation and flexibility to respond to urgent maintenance needs
  • Commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and understanding of trauma-informed service delivery
