Urban Resource Institute (URI) is seeking a full-time Superintendent in the Bronx to keep our New York City residential and shelter facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for the families and survivors we serve. This on-site role with URI Careers is ideal for a hands-on facilities professional who takes pride in well-maintained buildings.
About the Role
As a Superintendent based in the Bronx, New York City, you will oversee the day-to-day upkeep, repair, and operational readiness of URI properties. Working closely with facilities and program teams, you will ensure that every building meets health, safety, and code standards while supporting URI's mission to transform the lives of domestic violence survivors and homeless families.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and coordinate routine maintenance, repairs, and preventive upkeep across assigned Bronx facilities.
- Respond promptly to building issues, emergencies, and service requests to minimize disruption for residents.
- Monitor building systems including plumbing, electrical, heating, and general structural condition.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and compliance with applicable housing and occupancy codes.
- Schedule, supervise, and inspect work completed by vendors and contractors.
- Keep accurate records of inspections, repairs, supplies, and equipment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a building superintendent, facilities maintenance worker, or in a comparable hands-on role.
- Working knowledge of building systems such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC fundamentals.
- Familiarity with New York City housing and safety regulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Reliability, professionalism, and the willingness to respond to urgent on-site needs.
- A commitment to working respectfully within communities serving vulnerable populations.
