About the Role
Bread For The City seeks a visionary Director of Organizing and Systems Change to lead strategic organizing initiatives that amplify resident voices and advance policy solutions addressing root causes of poverty. This role oversees the development, direction, and execution of community organizing programs designed to build collective power among low-income residents and drive meaningful systems change across Washington, D.C.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement comprehensive organizing strategies that engage low-income residents as leaders in advocating for systemic change
- Oversee community organizing campaigns focused on housing, food security, healthcare access, and other core issues affecting Washington, D.C. residents
- Build and manage relationships with community partners, advocates, and stakeholders to align organizing efforts with broader anti-poverty movements
- Lead staff and volunteers in grassroots organizing, community education, and mobilization activities
- Coordinate public advocacy and policy engagement to influence decision-makers on issues impacting low-income communities
- Monitor organizing outcomes, measure program impact, and use data to refine strategies and improve effectiveness
- Represent Bread For The City in coalition spaces and community forums
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in community organizing, grassroots advocacy, or systems change work
- Proven track record leading organizing campaigns that mobilize low-income residents and achieve policy wins
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities
- Deep understanding of systemic barriers to economic justice and commitment to dismantling them
- Excellent communication and coalition-building skills
- Ability to thrive in a mission-driven nonprofit environment
- Knowledge of Washington, D.C. community dynamics and local policy landscape is a plus
