Claims Examiner | General Liability BI | Captive | Remote

Sedgwick is seeking a Claims Examiner specializing in General Liability Bodily Injury for a captive insurance program, based remotely with a focus on serving clients from Helena, Lewis and Clark County.

About the Role

In this position you will handle bodily injury claims arising from general liability exposures within a captive arrangement. You will work closely with insureds, claimants, attorneys, and medical professionals to investigate facts, assess coverage, and determine appropriate reserves while ensuring timely and fair resolution.

What You'll Do

• Review and investigate general liability bodily injury claims reported to the captive program
• Analyze policy language, applicable laws, and medical documentation to establish coverage and liability
• Communicate with claimants, legal counsel, and medical providers to gather information and negotiate settlements
• Develop and maintain accurate claim reserves, ensuring compliance with financial and regulatory standards
• Prepare detailed claim reports and recommendations for senior management and captive board review
• Monitor claim progress, manage litigation oversight when necessary, and close files in accordance with best practices
• Stay current with industry trends, legislative changes, and emerging risks affecting general liability exposures

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a claims examiner, adjuster, or similar role handling general liability bodily injury claims
• Strong knowledge of liability insurance principles, captive structures, and relevant state regulations
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret medical records, legal reports, and policy provisions
• Effective communication and negotiation abilities when interacting with diverse stakeholders
• Proficiency with claims management systems and standard office software (Microsoft Office, etc.)
• Detail‑oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and ethical claim handling
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with virtual teams
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and claims experience
