Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Patient Access Specialist for our Cancer Center at our Forest Lake location. As a Patient Access Specialist, you'll be the first point of contact for patients seeking cancer care services, ensuring a smooth and welcoming check-in experience while managing critical administrative processes that support clinical operations.

About the Role

In this full-time, daytime position based in Forest Lake, Lake County, you will be responsible for coordinating the front-end patient experience and managing the essential administrative functions that keep our cancer center running efficiently. Your work directly impacts patient satisfaction and the ability of our clinical team to deliver exceptional care.

What You'll Do

  • Greet patients and visitors with warmth and professionalism, setting a positive tone for their visit
  • Verify patient identification and insurance eligibility before appointments
  • Register new and returning patients accurately in our electronic health record system
  • Collect and maintain complete patient demographic and insurance information
  • Schedule appointments and manage the patient calendar
  • Respond to patient calls and inquiries regarding appointments and services
  • Process insurance pre-authorizations and obtain necessary approvals
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Communicate effectively with patients, clinical staff, and insurance companies

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Professional telephone and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to handle multiple patient interactions daily
  • Proficiency with computers and comfort learning electronic health record systems
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy in data entry
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams
  • Compassion for patients facing cancer treatment and willingness to support their needs
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required

Compensation and Benefits
