Join Capital One's Legal Department as Senior Director, Associate General Counsel for US Commercial & Product matters supporting the Discover payment network. This leadership role offers the opportunity to provide strategic legal guidance to a Fortune 100 financial services company while managing a critical area of our business.
About the Role
We're building out our Global Payment Network Legal team and seeking a seasoned corporate attorney to serve as lead counsel for our US operations. You'll provide comprehensive legal strategy and guidance on commercial matters related to the Discover payment network, working across departments to ensure legal excellence and business alignment.
What You'll Do
- Lead the legal strategy for US commercial and product matters within the Discover payment network
- Advise senior business leaders on complex legal issues, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation
- Review, negotiate, and manage significant commercial agreements and contracts
- Collaborate with product, operations, and technology teams to support business initiatives
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations in the payment processing industry
- Mentor and develop legal staff while fostering a culture of collaboration
- Identify emerging legal risks and opportunities to strengthen our legal position
What We're Looking For
- 15+ years of corporate and commercial law experience
- Demonstrated expertise in payment networks, financial services, or related industries
- Proven track record in senior-level legal leadership roles
- Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance frameworks
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
- Ability to partner effectively across departments and organizational levels
- Bar admission in good standing in the United States
- Bachelor's degree and law degree (JD or equivalent)
