Dover Public Schools invites applications for a full-time Guidance Counselor to serve as an anticipated-leave replacement at Dover High School during the 2026-2027 school year. This position is part of our Morris County school system, which educates approximately 3,600 students from Pre-K through grade 12.
About the Role
This is a temporary, full-time position available beginning August 31, 2026. As a Guidance Counselor at Dover High School, you will provide essential student support services, helping shape the academic, personal, and professional futures of our high school learners in a diverse, inclusive environment.
What You'll Do
- Provide individual and group counseling focused on academic planning, course selection, and educational progression
- Guide students through college exploration and career readiness planning
- Support student wellbeing by addressing personal challenges and connecting students with appropriate resources
- Partner with faculty, families, and administrators to remove barriers to student success
- Maintain student records and participate in assessment and progress monitoring activities
- Foster a welcoming, equitable school environment where all students feel valued and supported
What We're Looking For
- Valid New Jersey guidance counselor certification or path to certification
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Counselor Education, or comparable field
- Demonstrated experience or strong capability in student counseling and support
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students and families from varied backgrounds
- Passion for equity, inclusion, and removing barriers for all learners
- Collaborative approach to working with school teams to support student achievement
