About the Role

As a Water Treatment Plant Mechanic/Relief Operator II with the City of Jackson, you will combine mechanical maintenance expertise with relief water treatment operations. This position is open to both internal and external candidates and plays a vital part in protecting public health by ensuring the dependable delivery of clean, treated water across Jackson, Jackson County.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections on water treatment plant equipment and machinery.
• Serve as a relief operator, monitoring and adjusting treatment processes to maintain water quality standards.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues to minimize downtime and keep systems operational.
• Document maintenance activities, operational readings, and equipment performance accurately.
• Follow established safety procedures and regulatory requirements at all times.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude with experience maintaining and repairing pumps, motors, valves, and related plant equipment.
• Knowledge of water treatment processes and the ability to step into a relief operator capacity as needed.
• Familiarity with relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations governing water treatment facilities.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work the schedule required of a full-time, on-site municipal water treatment role.
