Vegetation Planner

Position Summary

As a Vegetation Planner, you ensure that vegetation throughout utility right-of-ways meets safety and compliance standards while supporting construction and maintenance operations. You'll serve as a liaison between the company, property owners, and regulatory agencies, managing the planning and communication around vegetation management activities. Your work directly protects utility reliability and public safety across the Clarkston area and surrounding Oakland County service territory.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections and assessments of vegetation in utility right-of-ways, evaluating compliance with established standards and project requirements
• Develop and review construction work plans related to vegetation management and clearance operations
• Communicate with property owners to explain the rationale and benefits of vegetation clearance work on their properties
• Provide advance notice to affected property owners regarding scheduled vegetation management activities
• Coordinate permitting processes with Department of Transportation, railroad operators, municipal authorities, and other regulatory bodies
• Travel to job sites and coordinate with field teams on vegetation assessment and clearance initiatives

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; relevant post-secondary education or certification in forestry, environmental science, or utility management is a plus
• Strong knowledge of vegetation management practices and utility right-of-way maintenance standards
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with property owners and regulatory agencies
• Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and compliance documentation
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for frequent travel throughout the service area
• Attention to detail and organizational ability to manage multiple projects and permitting requirements
