Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter – Large Contract Surety

Zurich NA is hiring an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter for our Large Contract Surety team, based in Salem, Marion County. This full-time position supports our West Region operations and offers meaningful work in a collaborative environment where your contributions drive real results.

About the Role

We're looking for a skilled underwriting professional to strengthen our contract surety portfolio and deepen client partnerships across the western territory. In this role, you'll evaluate complex bonding requests, make sound underwriting decisions, and work closely with brokers, agents, and project stakeholders. Your expertise will help us continue delivering reliable surety solutions to contractors and project owners throughout the region.

What You'll Do

• Review and evaluate contract surety bond applications, assessing project characteristics, contractor qualifications, and risk factors
• Render underwriting decisions on large contract surety requests in compliance with company standards
• Build and sustain productive relationships with brokers, agents, and clients across the West Region
• Analyze financial statements, performance history, and operational capability to determine appropriate bond limits and terms
• Partner with claims and risk management teams to protect portfolio integrity
• Maintain thorough documentation and accurate records of all underwriting activity
• Monitor surety market conditions and regulatory developments relevant to the business

What We're Looking For

• Experience as a Contract Surety Underwriter, Underwriting Specialist, or comparable position
• Solid understanding of surety bonding principles, construction contracting, and risk assessment
• Ability to analyze financial and operational information and make confident underwriting judgments
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions
• Attention to detail and sound analytical judgment
• Comfort with underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office software
• Interest in professional development and industry credentials
