About the Role
As a Life Skills Special Education Teacher, you'll work with students who benefit from functional, community-based academics and practical skill development. You'll create and deliver personalized instructional programs that build independence, confidence, and real-world competencies essential for students' futures.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement differentiated instructional programs tailored to each student's individual education plan (IEP) and learning needs
- Teach functional life skills including personal care, money management, safety awareness, social interaction, and community navigation
- Create and maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student engagement and growth
- Foster regular communication with parents, guardians, and families to align school goals with home support
- Maintain detailed and accurate student records, progress monitoring, and assessment documentation
- Partner with school administrators, counselors, special education coordinators, and related service providers to support comprehensive student development
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to collaborative problem-solving within the special education team
