About the Role
You'll serve as an essential data collector on NOAA ships and small research vessels, monitoring video systems and annotating observations during reef fish surveys in the Gulf of Mexico. Your work directly supports fisheries resource assessment, marine conservation, and environmental monitoring programs that inform management decisions across the region.
What You'll Do
- Annotate and review video footage from survey operations, recording fish species identifications, behaviors, and habitat conditions
- Perform watch-standing duties aboard NOAA research vessels following GCRF maritime protocols
- Maintain detailed, accurate field notes and real-time data observations during survey operations
- Assist with fisheries sampling and water quality data collection activities
- Participate in PEMD resource survey operations as assigned by the research team
- Support senior surveyors and marine scientists in maintaining data quality and operational safety
- Manage survey equipment and complete documentation required for compliance and research archives
What We're Looking For
