Special Education Teacher – Strat II ID – Elementary

Cedar Rapids Community School District is hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher – Instructional Strategist II: Intellectual Disabilities (Elementary) to serve students in kindergarten through fifth grade at a location to be determined for the 2026–2027 school year. This is an on-site position within one of Iowa's largest and most respected public school systems.

About the Role

As a Special Education Teacher at the elementary level, you will deliver specialized, research-based instruction to students with intellectual disabilities in a K–5 setting. All essential instructional duties are performed in person, making this a hands-on, community-centered position where your daily presence directly shapes student outcomes.

What You'll Do

• Design and deliver individualized instruction aligned to each student's IEP goals across academic, functional, and adaptive skill domains
• Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and Iowa Department of Education requirements
• Collect and analyze student performance data to drive instructional decisions and report progress to families and multidisciplinary team members
• Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to support inclusive and co-taught learning environments
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for home reinforcement
• Maintain accurate records, documentation, and confidential student files in accordance with district and state policy
• Participate in building-level team meetings, professional development, and special education staffings

What We're Looking For

• Valid Iowa teaching license with a Special Education – Instructional Strategist II: Intellectual Disabilities K–12 endorsement (or eligibility to obtain prior to start)
• Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practices for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Experience writing and implementing IEPs for elementary-age learners
• Strong collaboration and communication skills for working within multidisciplinary teams
• Commitment to equitable, student-centered education in a diverse school community
