As a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Fanatics Commerce, you'll operate at a senior technical level, balancing deep technical expertise with cross-functional leadership. You'll be based in Jacksonville, Florida (8100 Nations Way, Jacksonville, FL 32256), working full time with the option for partial remote work. This role combines hands-on system design, engineering mentorship, and strategic technical direction across automation, testing, and fulfillment operations. Up to 10% of your time may involve domestic travel. Compensation ranges from $201,571 to $221,571 annually.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate across Retail, eCommerce, and Supply Chain teams to architect and deliver scalable, dependable software that powers automated warehouse and fulfillment operations globally
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for quality assurance, automation engineering, and performance validation, establishing best practices and raising standards across multiple engineering teams
  • Design, build, and maintain comprehensive automation frameworks and test infrastructure spanning APIs, microservices, UI, and data layers, fully integrated into modern CI/CD and cloud-native environments
  • Drive performance, stress, and reliability testing initiatives, including capacity modeling and failure-mode analysis, to ensure systems consistently meet demanding throughput, latency, and uptime targets
  • Apply Discrete Event Simulation and system-level modeling techniques to optimize warehouse, fulfillment, and material handling throughput, utilization, and identify bottlenecks
  • Integrate testing, simulation, and observability capabilities into production-grade environments alongside software engineers, enabling data-driven continuous improvements
  • Lead the design and integration of advanced solutions—including AI-driven workflows, Computer Vision–powered quality assurance, and LLM-enabled capabilities—with emphasis on real-world reliability and measurable impact
  • Translate operational and business requirements into robust technical designs that balance scalability, dependability, cost, and long-term maintainability
  • Mentor engineering talent, lead technical discussions, oversee code reviews, and shape architecture decisions within and across teams
  • Monitor emerging trends and technologies in retail, eCommerce, supply chain automation, and AI, identifying innovations that strengthen system performance and operational results

Who We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or closely related discipline, with 7+ years as a Staff, Senior, or Lead Software Engineer—or equivalent experience in Retail and eCommerce platform development
  • 7+ years designing, building, and operating high-throughput, high-availability distributed systems for Retail and eCommerce, demonstrating deep knowledge of scalability, resilience, fault tolerance, capacity planning, and production excellence
  • 7+ years writing production software, test frameworks, and automation using Java, Python, JavaScript, Go, or similar languages; strong working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases
  • 5+ years designing and deploying test automation across APIs, services, and data layers using industry tools (Postman, JUnit, similar), aligned with shift-left and test-pyramid methodologies
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with Git, Unix/Linux, Docker, and cloud-native development workflows in large-scale Retail and eCommerce systems
  • 5+ years executing load, stress, and performance testing on high-volume Retail and eCommerce platforms using industry-standard tools (JMeter, k6, similar), including workload modeling and reliability analysis
  • 5+ years building, scaling, and managing CI/CD pipelines and automation platforms (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent) across distributed teams
  • 5+ years working with Retail, eCommerce, and fulfillment systems including order management systems, inventory platforms, and warehouse management systems (WMS)
  • 2+ years developing test harnesses and evaluation frameworks for complex systems
  • 2+ years setting technical direction, leading cross-team architecture efforts, coaching senior engineers, and driving organization-wide engineering standards aligned with business goals
