Atrium Health University City seeks a dedicated Senior Psychiatric Technician for its Emergency Department, based at 8800 N Tryon St in Charlotte, NC. This full-time day position offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, skilled patient care in a dynamic acute care setting.

Role Overview

As a Senior Psychiatric Technician at Atrium Health University City's Emergency Department, you'll support patients experiencing mental health crises, behavioral health challenges, and psychiatric emergencies. Your expertise, clinical judgment, and calming presence will be essential as you collaborate with physicians, nurses, and mental health professionals to deliver timely, trauma-informed care in a fast-paced environment.

Core Duties

• Monitor and assess patient behavior, mental status, and vital signs throughout shifts
• Respond to psychiatric emergencies and behavioral crises with de-escalation techniques
• Assist with patient admission, discharge, and transfer procedures
• Maintain accurate, detailed documentation of patient observations and interactions
• Collaborate with the clinical team to implement care plans and treatment protocols
• Ensure patient safety and maintain a secure, therapeutic environment
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
• Support nursing staff with activities of daily living and basic patient care needs

What We're Looking For

• Current Psychiatric Technician certification or licensure (as required by North Carolina)
• Minimum of one year of recent psychiatric or behavioral health experience
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patient populations
• Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional in high-stress situations
• Knowledge of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
• Physical ability to safely assist patients and move about the Emergency Department
• Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
• Willingness to work within a collaborative healthcare team
