About the Role

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Senior Attorney with deep expertise in carbon finance, climate policy, and complex environmental law. You'll serve as a trusted legal strategist for our Impact Finance and Markets, Climate Action, and Public Funding initiatives, shaping how we structure, negotiate, and implement groundbreaking carbon finance projects at national and international scale.

What You'll Do

• Provide senior-level legal analysis and strategic guidance on carbon finance transactions, including carbon credit mechanisms, compliance structures, and climate-related financial instruments
• Draft, negotiate, and review complex contracts, legal agreements, and regulatory documentation for climate and carbon programs
• Conduct due diligence on carbon finance opportunities and emerging policy landscapes affecting project viability and risk
• Collaborate with program teams to structure investments, partnerships, and philanthropic funding mechanisms that advance climate solutions
• Research and interpret evolving regulations in carbon markets, climate policy, and environmental finance across multiple jurisdictions
• Assess legal risks and develop mitigation strategies for complex, multi-stakeholder environmental initiatives
• Contribute to organizational strategy on climate finance, carbon markets, and policy at the intersection of law and conservation

What We're Looking For

• Juris Doctor degree and bar admission in the United States
• Demonstrated experience in carbon finance, climate law, environmental law, or complex financial transactions
• Proven ability to advise on high-stakes transactions and navigate complex regulatory environments
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex legal concepts for diverse audiences
• Collaborative approach to working across teams and with external stakeholders
• Knowledge of or strong interest in climate policy, carbon markets, and environmental finance
