Adventist Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for our Step Down Unit at our San Luis Obispo location. This part-time, night shift position offers an ideal opportunity for experienced nurses looking for flexible, meaningful clinical work in a progressive acute care setting on California's Central Coast.
About the Role
As an RN in our Step Down Unit, you'll provide skilled nursing care to patients who have moved beyond intensive care but require close monitoring and specialized support. Working nights, you'll lead clinical assessments, manage patient transitions, and coordinate care across the nursing team during a critical phase of recovery. Your expertise and judgment directly impact patient outcomes and the confidence families place in our care.
What You'll Do
- Monitor patient status, vital signs, and clinical indicators with keen attention to early signs of change
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and adjust care plans based on patient response
- Administer medications and treatments with precision and proper documentation
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to optimize patient recovery
- Provide compassionate patient and family education and support during transitions
- Maintain a safe, clean care environment and follow all safety and infection prevention protocols
- Lead by example in building a positive night shift culture and supporting peer nurses
What We're Looking For
- Current, valid RN license to practice in California
- Solid foundation in acute care nursing with experience in progressive or step-down environments preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and care team members
- Comfort and reliability working night hours
- Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based nursing practice
