Position Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic experimental RF Scientist/Engineer to join our team and operate the SPARC ion cyclotron heating system while studying RF physics/engineering in both SPARC and ARC. The SPARC tokamak aims to be the first magnetic confinement device to achieve net energy, with predictions of up to Q=11 in DT, producing 140 MW of fusion power. As a Principal Scientist - Radio Frequency Plasma Heating, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to deliver urgent transition to fusion energy.
Your Responsibilities
- Operate the SPARC ion cyclotron heating system and study RF physics/engineering within the tokamak environment.
- Contribute to the development of the 120 MHz, 25 MW (coupled) Ion Cyclotron Resonance Heating (ICRH) system through an array of 14 4-strap ICRH antennas.
- Support the Ion Cyclotron Discharge Cleaning (ICDC) System, which provides one of several mechanisms to clean and condition surfaces within the Tokamak confinement vessel, including boronization of plasma facing components.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Physics or related field with a focus on RF plasma heating techniques.
- Proven experience in operating and maintaining ion cyclotron resonance heating systems.
- Strong background in RF physics, plasma diagnostics, and tokamak operations.
- Prior experience in experimental research and development in fusion energy is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
