About the Role
As Deputy Group Leader, you will serve as a key strategic partner to the Group Leader, driving operational excellence and scientific advancement within the Nuclear and Radiochemistry division. This position blends technical leadership with organizational responsibility, enabling you to guide research direction, develop personnel, and ensure alignment with institutional priorities and federal compliance frameworks.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct leadership and operational management of the Nuclear and Radiochemistry group's research programs and scientific teams
- Partner with the Group Leader on strategic planning, resource allocation, and long-term technical vision for nuclear science and radiochemistry initiatives
- Build and sustain the group's research capabilities and technical strengths while developing junior scientists and supporting staff
- Ensure adherence to institutional safety, security, and regulatory compliance requirements across group operations
- Represent the Nuclear and Radiochemistry group in cross-functional collaborations and external partnerships
- Support proposal development and research program management across the group's portfolio
What We're Looking For
- Advanced degree in nuclear science, radiochemistry, chemistry, nuclear engineering, or related field
- Significant technical expertise and professional experience in nuclear or radiochemistry research
- Demonstrated leadership capability with a proven track record managing technical teams and complex projects
- Strong understanding of federal security, safety, and compliance requirements in national laboratory settings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to lead across organizational boundaries
