Position Summary

As a Lead Meat Cutter at Meijer's Lake Orion location, you'll supervise and mentor meat department staff while performing skilled cutting, grinding, and trimming operations. You'll oversee daily operations, ensure compliance with health and safety standards, manage inventory rotation, and maintain the professional presentation of our meat display cases. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities, requiring both precision in meat preparation and the ability to guide and motivate your crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and train meat department associates, providing feedback and coaching to develop team skills and performance
• Perform advanced meat cutting, fabrication, grinding, and packaging operations to precise specifications
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety protocols, sanitation standards, and OSHA guidelines
• Manage product inventory, ordering, and stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure freshness
• Ensure meat cases and displays are properly stocked, organized, and visually appealing throughout your shift
• Interact professionally with customers, responding to special requests and answering questions about products
• Operate and maintain meat department equipment safely and effectively
• Communicate with department management regarding staffing needs, inventory concerns, and operational issues

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience as a meat cutter with demonstrated expertise in cutting and fabrication techniques
• Supervisory or lead experience in a retail or food service environment
• Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including HACCP principles
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 50 lbs regularly
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead and motivate a team
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality in all work performed
• Valid food handler certification or willingness to obtain one
