K26241- Regional Legal Counsel, Africa (Locally Recruited)

CIMMYT is seeking a Regional Legal Counsel, Africa, based in Nairobi, Nairobi County, Kenya, to provide legal support and guidance across our operations in the region.

The Opportunity

• To support CIMMYT's strategic objectives by providing expert legal advice on matters related to intellectual property, contracts, and compliance with local and international laws.
• To manage legal risks and ensure that all legal documents and agreements are reviewed and approved in a timely manner.
• To collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures that align with legal standards.
• To represent CIMMYT in legal proceedings and negotiations, ensuring that the organization's interests are protected and advanced.
• To conduct legal research and provide updates on relevant legal developments that impact CIMMYT's operations.

<h2-Core Duties

• Provide comprehensive legal advice on a range of legal issues, including intellectual property, contracts, and compliance.
• Review and negotiate contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with legal standards and organizational policies.
• Manage and mitigate legal risks by conducting due diligence and risk assessments.
• Represent CIMMYT in legal proceedings and negotiations, ensuring effective communication and strategic representation.
• Stay updated on relevant legal developments and provide regular updates to key stakeholders.

<h2-Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of relevant legal experience, with a strong focus on intellectual property and contract law.
• A law degree from a recognized institution and a current legal license to practice in Kenya.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan and international laws, regulations, and legal frameworks.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical and strategic legal advice.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
