Johns Hopkins University is hiring a full-time K-9 Campus Police Officer to join our Public Safety team at the Homewood Campus in Druid, Maryland, where you'll provide sworn law enforcement and security services while serving as a certified handler for our Critical Incident Response Team comfort dog.

About the Role

This dual-responsibility position combines traditional campus law enforcement duties with specialized K-9 handler responsibilities. You'll work as part of Johns Hopkins Public Safety, protecting the Homewood Campus and affiliated off-campus facilities. Your role encompasses both crime prevention and community support, with your K-9 partner serving as a critical asset for emergency response and student wellness initiatives across our campus community.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Conduct patrols of campus grounds and buildings to maintain security and detect potential threats
  • Respond to incidents, emergency calls, and suspicious activity with appropriate law enforcement action
  • Handle, train, and care for the department-owned Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) comfort dog
  • Deploy K-9 capabilities during critical incidents, emergencies, and community events
  • Enforce campus policies, local ordinances, and applicable laws
  • Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate documentation
  • Engage with campus community members to build trust and gather information

  • Valid US driver's license and a clean driving record
