Research Assistant (Laboratory for Computational Sensing & Robotics) – Staff

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Research Assistant for the Laboratory for Computational Sensing & Robotics located in Druid, Baltimore. This full‑time staff role supports the laboratory’s research initiatives by managing data workflows and ensuring the integrity of experimental results.

About the Role

In this position you will work closely with principal investigators and research teams to collect, organize, and maintain data generated from sensing and robotics experiments. You will help prepare datasets for analysis, verify their accuracy, and contribute to the smooth operation of ongoing studies.

What You'll Do

• Generate regular and special reports using standard data analysis tools.
• Review experimental data with software platforms to identify inconsistencies.
• Perform data cleaning procedures to enhance accuracy and readiness for downstream analysis.
• Maintain organized data repositories, ensuring proper labeling, version control, and accessibility for team members.
• Assist researchers with the preparation of data summaries, visualizations, and basic statistical summaries as needed.
• Support lab operations by helping to set up experiments, calibrate sensors, and document procedural notes.
• Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot data‑related issues and recommend improvements to data handling practices.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, computer science, data science, or a physical science; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Proficiency with data manipulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R) and familiarity with spreadsheet or database applications.
• Experience working with scientific data, including data collection, cleaning, and basic analysis.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high data quality standards.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Familiarity with robotics or sensing platforms is a plus but not required.
• Ability to learn new tools quickly and adapt to evolving project needs.
