LawnStarter invites applications for a full-time remote Data Governance & Platform Manager role open to candidates anywhere in the world. In this position you will strengthen data trust so product, marketing, operations, and finance teams can rely on accurate insights every day.

What This Role Involves

You become the inaugural Data Governance & Platform Manager dedicated solely to data reliability across LawnStarter. Working hands-on and independently at the start, you will redesign existing practices, introduce automation, and establish lasting standards that cover sources, pipelines, metrics, tracking, BI workspaces, machine learning inputs, and privacy controls. Success means turning partial coverage into comprehensive protection while shaping the ongoing Lightdash migration into a clean foundation rather than a new mess.

Responsibilities

  • Build and run automated monitoring that protects quality and freshness from source systems through warehouse models to reports, intercepting schema shifts early and guiding incidents to full resolution.
  • Create a continually updated lineage map linking production origins to dbt models, dashboards, and beyond so that every proposed production change receives impact review before release, ultimately enabling formal data contracts with engineering.
  • Administer Lightdash completely—workspace layout, permissions, certification practices, and user training—so stakeholders gain true self-serve power while spaces stay organized, queries stay fast, and warehouse spend stays controlled; finish retiring Tableau and Metabase.
  • Extend the newly launched semantic layer so every critical metric carries one governed definition written in code, then defend that discipline against uncontrolled expansion.
  • Own the Segment event catalog by reviewing every new event for standards compliance, reconciling the catalog against live production traffic, and refining naming rules, property dictionaries, and automated drift detection as usage grows.
  • Govern warehouse access for internal AI agents, keep documentation and consistency high enough for safe agent queries, and enforce comprehensive access reviews, PII handling, and retention rules aligned with US state privacy laws.
  • Document ownership models, review cadences, and lightweight processes that allow the whole governance system to operate smoothly even when you are offline for weeks.

What We're Looking For

  • True enjoyment of the craft of making data platforms trustworthy and orderly rather than treating governance as temporary duty on the way to other analytics work.
  • Daily, fluent use of AI tools to generate checks, automation scripts, anomaly triage routines, and living documentation, while also ensuring the warehouse itself remains safe and legible for AI agents consuming data.
  • Senior judgment paired with readiness to write SQL yourself, debug Airflow DAGs, set Lightdash permissions, and ship fixes without needing direct reports.
  • Strong automatic preference for programmable monitors and tests over manual checklists or recurring human reviews.
  • Calm ability to hold peer engineers and analysts accountable to clear standards through excellent tooling, transparent rules, and professional pushback when needed.
  • Deep hands-on experience with warehouse and pipeline layers (Redshift, dbt, Airflow) plus proven work keeping a BI platform and event tracking plan healthy at company scale; Segment, Lightdash, or similar tools are interested pluses but full checklist matching is not required.

Working at LawnStarter

LawnStarter runs a leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services that generates more than $100M in yearly bookings and is broadening into a full suite of home services under the three brands LawnStarter, Lawn Love, and Home Gnome, all powered by one shared platform. A compact senior analytics team already maintains a mature Redshift warehouse landing all sources, modeled with dbt, orchestrated by Airflow, and fed by Segment events; the current move to Lightdash as the single BI tool replaces Tableau and Metabase. This full-time remote role anywhere in the world offers a base salary of $75k–$100k per year, equity so you share in the value created by trustworthy data, and flexible PTO that prioritizes results. Collaboration is asynchronous by default to protect deep focus. LawnStarter provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics and follows applicable nondiscrimination laws.
