Cornell University is hiring a Part-Time Health Assistant to support our camp operations in Southold, NY. Working under the Health Director's supervision, you'll safeguard camper and staff wellbeing by managing health care, responding to medical needs, and maintaining essential health and safety protocols throughout the camp season.
About the Role
This part-time position is central to our commitment to camper safety and health. You'll serve as the frontline health resource on site, executing established safety procedures, managing health documentation, and providing prompt medical response. Your work directly supports the Health Director and ensures every camper receives attentive care.
What You'll Do
- Execute approved health and safety plans, maintaining standards and compliance across all camp activities
- Maintain camper health records and manage medication administration under supervision
- Evaluate and respond to injuries and acute illness affecting campers and staff
- Deliver first aid and basic emergency medical care as situations require
- Participate in health screening during camp opening, particularly for overnight camper intake
- Document health updates and communicate relevant information to the Health Director and team
What We're Looking For
- Valid LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) certification in New York
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively to medical situations
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous health documentation practices
- Clear communication and collaborative approach to team-based health care
- Genuine commitment to child safety and positive camp experiences
