Family Services Specialist

About the Role

As a Family Services Specialist, you'll be the bridge between families in transition and the support systems designed to help them succeed. Working primarily with DCFS-involved families, you'll deliver direct support services that address immediate safety concerns while fostering long-term resilience and self-sufficiency.

What You'll Do

• Support families enrolled in Family Habilitation Services, helping them develop practical skills and address barriers to stability
• Facilitate supervised visitation between family members, ensuring safe and meaningful contact in accordance with court orders
• Connect families with housing resources and assist with placement when needed
• Document progress, maintain accurate records, and communicate regularly with case managers and courts
• Help families understand program requirements and compliance obligations
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation when families face immediate challenges
• Build trust-based relationships that encourage families to engage in services and meet their goals

What We're Looking For

• Experience working with families, children, or vulnerable populations (paid or volunteer)
• Understanding of child welfare systems, DCFS processes, or similar social services
• Strong communication and listening skills, especially with families under stress
• Ability to remain calm, objective, and non-judgmental in challenging situations
• Reliable transportation and willingness to work flexible hours as needed
• High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field preferred
• Background clearance eligibility (subject to screening requirements)
