What This Role Involves
As an Equipment Operator, you'll perform essential maintenance and construction work that keeps Naperville's public infrastructure safe and functional. You'll operate a range of heavy equipment and machinery while performing both skilled and semi-skilled labor tasks that support the Department of Public Works' daily operations across the entire city.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment and machinery used in street maintenance and construction
- Maintain streets, sidewalks, and public pathways in accordance with municipal standards
- Support landscape management and forestry operations throughout the city
- Perform maintenance on park facilities and recreational areas
- Work on drainage systems and related water management infrastructure
- Install, repair, and maintain traffic control devices and signage
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Follow safety protocols and adhere to all OSHA regulations
- Respond to emergency maintenance needs as assigned
Who We're Looking For
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment in municipal or construction settings
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Physical capability to perform demanding manual labor
