Elementary Library Media Specialist (Anticipated Vacancy 2026-2027)

Brunswick County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Elementary Library Media Specialist for Brunswick Elementary School in Lawrenceville, Brunswick County. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to shape students' research skills, foster a love of reading, and lead innovative library programs at the elementary level.

About the Role

As the Elementary Library Media Specialist, you will serve as a vital educational leader, transforming your school's library into a dynamic learning hub. Over a 10-month contract year, you'll design and deliver engaging library experiences that support literacy development, critical thinking, and information fluency across all grade levels. This position reports to the school principal and collaborates closely with classroom teachers to align library instruction with curriculum standards.

What You'll Do

• Develop and teach information literacy and research skills across grade levels, helping students locate, evaluate, and synthesize information effectively
• Curate, organize, and manage print and digital collections to support classroom learning and student interests
• Plan and implement library programs—including read-alouds, author events, themed activities, and reading challenges—to cultivate student engagement and a passion for reading
• Integrate technology tools and databases into instruction, preparing students for digital citizenship and online research
• Partner with classroom teachers to support content-area instruction and differentiated learning needs
• Maintain library operations, including circulation systems, inventory management, and budget stewardship
• Assess student progress in information and media literacy standards

What We're Looking For

• Master's degree in Library Science, Library Media Education, or related field
• Valid Virginia Library Media Teacher certification (or ability to obtain)
• Experience teaching library skills and managing school library collections
• Strong knowledge of information literacy frameworks and student learning standards
• Proficiency with library management systems and educational technology
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with faculty, students, and families
• Passion for fostering a culture of reading and lifelong learning
