DSP OMH CR – Housing Services

Join Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in our OMH CR Housing Services program, serving individuals across Hauppauge, Suffolk County. This is a full-time position dedicated to transforming lives through direct, compassionate support.

Position Summary

As a DSP specializing in housing services under the Office of Mental Health, you are the foundation of our clients' pathway to independence and wellbeing. You'll partner daily with the individuals we serve to help them achieve meaningful personal outcomes—whether that's mastering essential daily living skills, pursuing employment goals, or making informed decisions about their own lives. Your role combines practical caregiving with person-centered advocacy, ensuring each individual's health, safety, and dignity remain at the center of everything you do.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals in developing and maintaining daily living skills, including personal hygiene, nutrition, household management, and community engagement
• Facilitate employment readiness and job coaching, helping participants move toward meaningful work or volunteer opportunities
• Model and teach informed decision-making to support autonomy and self-advocacy
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of support activities, progress, and any changes in client status or needs
• Collaborate with case managers, treatment teams, and other professionals to coordinate individualized support plans
• Monitor and respond to health and safety concerns, ensuring immediate attention to medical or behavioral needs
• Participate in ongoing training to strengthen your skills in trauma-informed care, behavioral support, and person-centered practices

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Genuine commitment to empowering individuals with mental health and developmental support needs
• Valid driver's license and ability to transport clients as needed for appointments and activities
• Willingness to obtain and maintain a clean background check
• Ability to lift and assist individuals with mobility as required
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, person-centered environment
