Director of Special Events & Communications

Big Bend Hospice is hiring a Director of Special Events & Communications to lead our Foundation's fundraising initiatives and community outreach in Tallahassee, Leon County. This is a full-time position for an experienced events and communications professional ready to build lasting relationships, amplify our mission, and create meaningful experiences that strengthen our community's connection to hospice care.

About the Role

As Director of Special Events & Communications, you'll take ownership of our Foundation's signature events, donor communications, and community engagement strategy. Reporting directly to leadership, you'll develop and execute integrated campaigns that inspire support for our programs and services while managing the logistics, promotion, and impact measurement of each initiative. This role combines strategic communications expertise with hands-on event management to ensure every touchpoint reflects our commitment to compassionate care.

What You'll Do

• Develop annual event strategy and calendar for Foundation fundraisers, galas, community gatherings, and awareness campaigns
• Oversee all aspects of event execution—vendor coordination, budgeting, marketing, registration, and day-of logistics
• Create compelling communications for multiple audiences: donors, volunteers, patients and families, staff, and the broader Tallahassee community
• Manage social media, email campaigns, newsletters, and other digital communications channels to share our story and engage supporters
• Cultivate relationships with donors, corporate sponsors, and community partners to sustain and grow fundraising impact
• Measure and report on event outcomes and communications effectiveness; refine strategies based on data and feedback
• Represent Big Bend Hospice at community events and networking opportunities

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years managing fundraising events, community relations, or nonprofit communications
• Proven ability to plan and execute events from concept through completion, independently or as part of a small team
• Strong writing and storytelling skills for diverse formats and audiences
• Experience with digital communications tools, social media platforms, and email marketing
• Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to juggle multiple priorities
• Relationship-building mindset with genuine passion for community engagement and mission-driven work
• Problem-solving ability and comfort adapting plans in fast-moving environments
