The DARPA - Microsystems Technology Office (MTO) Senior Science Advisor position at Amentum is based in Fort Myer, Arlington County and supports cutting‑edge research for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. This full‑time role is contingent upon contract award and involves delivering expert scientific guidance to advance microsystems initiatives.

About the Role

As a Senior Science Advisor, you will serve as a trusted technical consultant to DARPA’s Microsystems Technology Office, helping shape the direction of high‑impact research programs. You will work closely with government program managers, research teams, and industry partners to evaluate emerging technologies, assess technical risks, and provide recommendations that align with national security objectives.

What You'll Do

• Provide strategic scientific and technical advice on microsystems, MEMS, photonics, and related fields.
• Review and assess research proposals, technical reports, and program progress for scientific rigor and relevance.
• Prepare briefings, white papers, and presentations for senior DARPA leadership and interagency stakeholders.
• Identify emerging technology trends and recommend opportunities for new program starts or technology transitions.
• Facilitate collaboration between government laboratories, academic institutions, and private sector innovators.
• Support the development of evaluation metrics and performance tracking for ongoing MTO efforts.

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in engineering, physics, materials science, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Substantial experience providing scientific counsel to federal research and development organizations, preferably within DARPA or similar agencies.
• Deep knowledge of microsystems technologies, including design, fabrication, testing, and integration.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex technical information into clear, actionable insights.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of preparing high‑level briefings for technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and navigate fast‑changing government priorities.
