Crossing Guard – 2.0 hours/day

Champaign Unit 4 School District invites you to join our team as a full-time Crossing Guard serving International Prep Academy in Champaign, Illinois. This position is vital to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our elementary students during daily school transitions, beginning immediately.

About the Role

As a Crossing Guard, you are the first line of defense in protecting our youngest learners during their most vulnerable moments—traveling to and from school. Working 2.0 hours per day, you'll maintain a vigilant, reassuring presence at designated pedestrian crossings, managing both student movement and vehicle traffic to create a safe passage for our students.

What You'll Do

• Station yourself at school crossings during peak arrival and dismissal periods to monitor pedestrian traffic
• Direct elementary students safely across streets and intersections using clear verbal commands and hand signals
• Communicate patiently and authoritatively with school-aged children to reinforce safe crossing behaviors
• Manage vehicle traffic flow and alert drivers to the presence of students in crossing zones
• Remain alert to dangerous conditions, distracted students, or unexpected hazards
• Enforce crossing safety protocols consistently and professionally
• Serve as a role model and trusted authority figure for students navigating public spaces

• High school diploma or equivalent certification
• Demonstrated ability to connect with and guide elementary-aged children
• Strong verbal communication skills and calm demeanor under pressure
• Excellent attendance and reliability—students depend on your consistent presence
• Physical stamina to stand for extended periods while remaining attentive
