Collections Move Technician – Natural Science (Geology)

Milwaukee Public Museum is hiring a Collections Move Technician – Natural Science (Geology) in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, to help safely relocate one of the region's most significant natural history collections to a new home.

About the Role

As a Collections Move Technician on the Natural Science team, you will play a hands-on part in the museum's landmark project to transfer its roughly four-million-object collection into a brand-new building. This full-time, on-site position is based in Milwaukee and focuses primarily on the Geology collection, with the possibility of contributing to the Zoology and Botany collections as project needs evolve. Working under the direction of the Collections Move leadership, you will help ensure that irreplaceable specimens are handled, documented, and moved with the utmost care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the careful packing, handling, and relocation of geological specimens and related natural science objects.
• Support inventory, labeling, and documentation tasks tied to the collection move.
• Collaborate closely with fellow technicians and follow guidance from the Collections Move supervisor.
• Lend support to the Zoology and Botany collections when required by the project schedule.
• Help maintain organized, safe, and well-tracked workspaces throughout the transition to the new facility.

Qualifications

• Interest in or background related to natural science, geology, museum studies, or collections care.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical, careful approach to handling delicate objects.
• Ability to work cooperatively within a team and follow established procedures and supervision.
• Comfort with physical, hands-on tasks associated with packing and moving collection materials.
• Willingness to work on-site in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County.
