About the Role

As Clinical Director of Clinical Research for Merck's Ophthalmology division, you are the strategic leader for research activities spanning our entire eye disease portfolio. You will plan and direct clinical research programs for both novel and established medicines, managing all phases of development from pre-clinical research through post-licensure studies. Your leadership will drive the translation of scientific discovery into safe, effective therapies that make a measurable difference in ophthalmology practice.

What You'll Do

• Plan, design, and direct clinical research activities and programs for new and marketed ophthalmology medicines
• Manage the full clinical development cycle across all research phases, from pre-clinical through post-licensure
• Establish research strategies and protocols that meet regulatory requirements and advance company objectives
• Lead cross-functional research teams and guide investigator relationships across clinical sites
• Oversee data integrity, safety monitoring, and compliance throughout all clinical programs
• Translate clinical evidence into regulatory submissions and market development strategies

What We're Looking For

• Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) with significant clinical research experience
• Expertise in clinical development processes, regulatory science, and GCP standards
• Strategic background managing complex, multi-site clinical research programs
• Knowledge of ophthalmology therapeutics and eye disease research
• Strong scientific leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Proven success advancing medicines through development phases
