Role Overview

As a Clinical Budget Analyst at Penumbrainc, you'll serve as a financial strategist and operational connector within the Clinical Research Department. Your work directly impacts how clinical trials progress from planning through active enrollment at research sites nationwide. You'll navigate budget negotiations, coordinate across departments, and keep clinical programs on track financially and administratively—all while adhering to Penumbrainc's rigorous quality standards and regulatory compliance frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead budget negotiation discussions with clinical trial sites, including hospitals and investigator-sponsored research facilities, ensuring financial terms align with study scope and timelines
  • Develop, review, and revise clinical trial site budgets and budget amendments, working toward mutual agreement between Penumbrainc and research partners
  • Coordinate contract submissions for clinical studies and investigator-sponsored trials between the Clinical Research and Legal Departments, managing internal and external stakeholder engagement through completion
  • Provide management with regular progress updates on site activation and financial status, flagging potential delays and recommending mitigation strategies to maintain project momentum
  • Supply clinical project managers and study staff with timely updates on budget and contract status, ensuring transparency across teams
  • Proactively anticipate complications in budget and contract processes and recommend solutions before issues escalate
  • Maintain close collaboration with the Legal Department to align timelines, clarify expectations, and manage evolving requirements across active and new clinical programs
  • Uphold compliance with Penumbrainc's Quality Management System, applicable regulatory standards, and internal procedures in all work performed
  • Model and reinforce quality, security, privacy, and compliance standards across the department
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned by management

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences or a closely related field, combined with at least 5 years of professional experience in budget analysis, financial planning, or clinical operations—or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Core Competencies

  • Demonstrated mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Exceptional organizational ability and project management skills, with proven success handling multiple concurrent initiatives and competing deadlines
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration
  • High accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in budget figures, contract language, and administrative documentation
  • Ability to process high volumes of work reliably within tight timelines without sacrificing quality
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities and the confidence to propose innovative approaches to negotiation and process challenges
  • Proficiency in database creation and management, along with general database software navigation
  • Background in a medical device company, pharmaceutical firm, or similarly regulated industry environment is desirable

We offer a competitive base salary range of $93,000 to $130,000 annually for this position, with regional adjustments based on location. Our comprehensive compensation package includes benefits and equity opportunities when applicable.
