About the Role

As a Balance of Plant Lead Mechanical Engineer at Sargent & Lundy, you will drive systems engineering and design initiatives that support the long-term operation of nuclear facilities. You'll take technical ownership of projects from analysis through implementation, working with internal teams and plant personnel to develop solutions that meet stringent nuclear safety and performance standards.

What You'll Do

• Perform engineering analyses and evaluations including hydraulic systems modeling, heat transfer calculations, and heat balance studies to inform modifications and ensure safe plant operation
• Develop and review modification packages for operating nuclear power plant systems, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements
• Prepare functional and detailed mechanical drawings for nuclear power plant components and systems
• Assess engineering data and specifications to validate that proposed changes meet plant safety, performance, and operational criteria
• Lead technical discussions with plant engineering teams, operations staff, and project stakeholders
• Support balance-of-plant system optimization, including analysis of pumping systems, heat exchangers, cooling loops, and auxiliary mechanical equipment
• Maintain clear technical documentation and communicate complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline
• Experience or demonstrated proficiency in thermal-hydraulic analysis, heat transfer engineering, or balance-of-plant mechanical systems
• Knowledge of nuclear power plant systems, operations, or industry regulatory frameworks
• Competency with mechanical design and CAD software; ability to produce quality engineering drawings
• Analytical mindset with strong attention to technical detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication skills for presenting technical information clearly
• Ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively across engineering teams
