Associate Manager, (Paralegal/Business and Legal) – Audio Licensing

Universal Music Group is hiring a full-time Associate Manager, (Paralegal/Business and Legal) – Audio Licensing to join its team in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, at the center of one of the world's most influential music companies.

About the Role

This position sits within Universal Music's legal and business affairs function, supporting the audio licensing team that manages rights across UMG's expansive global catalog. You'll work at the intersection of music law, contract administration, and creative commerce — helping to ensure that UMG's recorded music reaches the world on the right terms. This is an on-site role based in Santa Monica, CA.

What You'll Do

• Draft, review, and process audio licensing agreements, amendments, and related documentation for a wide range of use cases including synchronization, digital, broadcast, and third-party licensing
• Track and manage the full lifecycle of licensing deals, from initial inquiry through execution and delivery
• Coordinate with internal business affairs attorneys, label teams, and creative departments to facilitate timely licensing clearances
• Respond to inbound licensing requests, assess rights availability, and communicate terms to external licensees and partners
• Maintain accurate records in contract management and rights tracking systems
• Research copyright ownership, master recording rights, and catalog metadata to support licensing decisions
• Support attorneys on special projects, due diligence, and department-wide initiatives as needed

What We're Looking For

• 2–4 years of experience in music licensing, entertainment law, or a related business and legal affairs environment
• Paralegal certificate, bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience
• Working knowledge of US copyright law, music rights structures, and licensing terminology
• Strong contract-drafting and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Proven ability to manage multiple active deals and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills for internal and external correspondence
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with rights or contract management platforms is a plus
• Genuine passion for the music industry and an understanding of how recorded music rights fuel the creative economy
