Role Overview

SYC delivers employment services at over 50 locations throughout Australia. The Aboriginal Employment Mentor actively engages with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants across SYC’s Employment Services caseload. This role involves providing support to motivate, upskill, and secure sustainable and compliant employment for these participants.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants to understand their employment needs and goals
• Provide one-on-one mentoring and coaching to assist in career development and job readiness
• Work closely with SYC’s Employment Services team to identify opportunities for participants
• Support participants through the job application process, including resume building and interview preparation
• Monitor participant progress and provide ongoing feedback and support
• Ensure all services are provided in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner

What We're Looking For

• A strong understanding of the challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the workforce
• Exemplary communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills
• Experience working with Indigenous communities or a similar role is highly desirable
• Ability to build trust and rapport with participants quickly
• A commitment to cultural safety and awareness
