Position Summary
The Elementary Teacher (Grade 4 Math) at Freedomprep introduces grade-level math concepts and builds student mastery through varied instructional approaches and ongoing assessments administered regularly across the school year. The educator collaborates with colleagues to ensure curriculum alignment across subjects and themes while creating lessons that promote thorough understanding and skillful application of content for learners in Memphis, Tennessee.
Key Responsibilities
- Live out and demonstrate the network core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, excellence, and community for students, families, and staff
- Sustain a school culture of elevated academic and behavioral standards via constant reflection, adaptability, and professional improvement
- Help students form positive self-perceptions and advance their learning through social, emotional, physical, and intellectual supports
- Maintain clear and effective communication while cultivating solid relationships with students, families, and teammates
- Establish and preserve a constructive classroom culture and sense of community
- Apply school-wide rules and expectations inside the classroom, including planning lessons, developing curriculum, designing assignments, and preparing related materials
- Employ careful data analysis of student results to shape and improve teaching practices
- Keep complete, accurate, and compliant records as mandated by law and by administrative or district rules
- Follow an extended school day that supports collaboration, professional learning, and frequent contact with parents and colleagues
- Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, and Dean of Students to design and carry out strategies enabling every student to achieve
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Head of School, Assistant Head of School, or other campus administrators
Who We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree strongly preferred
- Valid Tennessee teaching license with endorsement(s) matching the assigned content area, or a valid license from a reciprocal state, or active enrollment in a certification program that can recommend the candidate for licensure
- Eligibility for a Tennessee teaching license is required
- Two to four years of urban teaching and educational leadership experience preferred
- Ability to work successfully with a range of learning levels, including students who enter with lower skill levels, inside a mixed-ability classroom
- Solid computer proficiency that includes Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated dedication to the educational mission, vision, and goals of Freedomprep along with a relentless focus on student growth

Freedomprep operates a network of free public charter schools serving PreK–12 students in Memphis, Tennessee and Birmingham, AL. The organization prepares every learner to succeed in college and in life. Founded in 2009 with one class of 96 sixth graders, Freedomprep now serves more than 1,950 students across multiple campuses. In 2024 the network opened in Birmingham with kindergarten and first-grade classes, with plans to expand into a full K–5 campus.
