Position Summary

The Commercial Carpenter role at Hamptonroads centers on precise, code-compliant construction tasks that support commercial sites in and around Newport News, VA. You will translate plans into built forms and assemblies while working as part of an on-site crew to keep projects progressing safely and accurately. Key Responsibilities

• Review blueprints, sketches, and layout marks to sequence carpentry work for commercial structures
• Measure, cut, shape, and assemble lumber and related materials using hand and power tools
• Construct and strip concrete forms, install framing, sheathing, doors, windows, and selected interior trim
• Level, plumb, and secure installations so they meet dimensional tolerances and project specifications
• Coordinate with supervisors and fellow trades to maintain workflow and resolve field issues promptly
• Follow all job-site safety rules, guard against hazards, and keep tools and work areas orderly
• Inspect completed work for quality before turning areas over for subsequent trades or inspections

Skills & Qualifications

• Demonstrated background in commercial or heavy carpentry with the ability to work independently once directed
• Clear skill reading construction drawings, elevations, and section details common to commercial builds
• Competent use of circular saws, levels, transits, framing hammers, and other standard carpentry tools
• Working knowledge of commercial building materials, fastening methods, and applicable codes
• Physical capacity to lift materials, climb scaffolding or ladders, and perform tasks outdoors in varying weather
• Strong safety mindset and the discipline to complete accurate measurements and clean finishes
• Reliable transportation to reach commercial job sites across the Newport News and greater Hampton Roads region
